The first time I bit into a guava I thought it was the worst tasting fruit I had ever tasted. I don't know what prompted me to end up finishing the whole guava but I was happy I did. Just getting near the end I seemed to start to like the taste and it seemed so much less bitter than that first bite.
What I was not aware of at this time were the many health benefits that come from eating guava fruit. Guava is even referred to as the "super fruit".
The following are reasons why we should be eating guava.
1. Boost immunity. Guava is an excellent source of Vitamin C. Keeping up a healthy immunity helps keep colds and flu away.
2. Increases blood production. Guava contains all the essential vitamins and minerals which are essential for blood formation.
3. Improves digestion. Guava contains high amounts of dietary fiber which helps to relieve diarrhea as well as prevent constipation.
4. Maintain blood pressure. Guava contains a high amount potassium. Potassium is required to maintain levels of sodium and fluid which can decrease the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
5. Helps with diabetes. Guava has a high amount of dietary fiber which helps to reduce sugar spikes in those who have diabetes.
6. Improve eye health. Because guava has a high amount of Vitamin A it is seen as a great choice of food for maintaining and improving eye health.
7. Nourish skin. Guava is rich in Vitamins A, B, and C as well as potassium which are good antioxidants and detoxifiers and will help stop premature aging, wrinkles, and many skin disorders.
8. Protection from cancer. This is due to its high amounts of antioxidants, phytonutrients, and flavonoid.
9. Aid in weight loss. This fruit is very high in roughage and very high in proteins, vitamins, and minerals. It has no cholesterol and is very low in digestible carbohydrates. It is very filling and satisfies an appetite.

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I miss eating Guavas. Growing up in the Philippines we used to have these Guavas that are huge. I would snack on some guavas that are about the size of a newborn baby. It was that big. It was so sweet, and crispy on the outside and soft, sweet and chewy on the inside, the closer you get to the seeds. Oh I miss it. Guavas are absolutely delicious!
