1. Reuse last year's supplies
Take a count of the items you currently have at home. You might find unused notebooks and paper, as well as binders, pencils, and crayons that are still in good condition for the new school year.
2. Stick to the list
Purchase only what is on the list. There is no need to buy any extra items if they will end up shoved in the back of kids desks.
3. Check out garage and yard sales
Summer is the most popular time to go to garage and yard sales. People clean out their houses and sell many things very cheap as they just want to get rid of it. You can find a lot of different items at these sales that can save you loads of cash. Especially keep a look out for the ones that advertise children’s clothing, bags, notebooks, or electronics. You may be able to save a lot of money while getting ready for the new school year through these sales.
4. Scoop out the sales
Now is the time to purchase supplies for the remainder of the year while the prices are rock bottom. Think about the items your child will be using regularly like notebook paper, pencils and glue sticks and stockpile some extras.
5. Invest in reusable lunch products
Choose from a wide selection of reusable water bottles, sandwich and snack bags or containers. They can be washed and dried to reuse multiple times rather than purchasing disposable juice packs and plastic sandwich bags.
6. Buy in bulk
Back-to-school shopping time is the perfect opportunity to stock up on all the supplies you’ll need throughput the year at low prices. Stick to items you know that will be needed such as notebooks and pencils and avoid items that may be used only a few times during the year.
Rather than only buying name-brand school items and supplies, opt for store-brand and no-name brand items which will most likely cost less.
8. Shop Dollar TreeGet incredible bargains on basic school supplies such as notebooks, paper, glue sticks, and pencils.
9. Use coupons
The easiest way to find coupons is to sign up on a store’s mailing list. Stores will often send out special discounts and coupons to those on their mailing list. You can also find coupons online and in newspapers.
10. Host a clothes swap
Get together with other moms in your family, friends circle, or neighborhood and organize a clothing swap where people can exchange items for free. Feel free to expand out from just exchanging clothing and include backpacks that are still in good shape as well as excess school supplies.
