As a parent, it is so important to acknowledge that nobody is perfect in this world. Parenting is a learning experience which grows and improves overtime however will never lead to perfection.
Here are 10 tips to help you think positively when you are feeling overwhelmed with worry.
1. Take care of yourself
Be sure that you are eating a well balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, some exercise, and getting a good nights rest.
2. Help someone
Take the focus away from yourself and do something nice for another person. It will make you feel good and doesn't take much effort. Consider volunteering some time at a local hospital or elder's home, a soup kitchen, or animal shelter.
3. Set goals
Having goals to work towards can make you feel more positive. Goals will keep you busy therefore having less time for negative thinking.
4. Take a break from social media
Being constantly connected to your news feed can cause a negative impact on your health. You may be seeing articles and videos that contain negativity or simply viewing photos and articles of people who seem to have the perfect life can cause you to become down on yourself. In either case it is better to disconnect for some time and focus on the more positive things in life.
What are some things you enjoy doing? Not sure what you might like? How about reading a book, painting, or taking up a craft project such as knitting, quilting, or sewing? Whatever you choose is up to you and while you are keeping yourself busy doing something you enjoy there will be less time for negative thoughts.
6. Practice gratitude
Remind yourself every day of all the good things you have in life to be thankful for. Try writing all the good things that happen to you every day so that you have something to remind yourself when negativity comes around.
7. Stay connected with friends
Parents are so involved in raising their children when they are young that it is easy to become disconnected from friends. Having friends are so important as they can provide support, a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, and even some humor if you are feeling low.
8. Change up your daily habits
Making changes to how you do things will help you to be more creative which results in more positive thinking. For instance, the food you eat, your hairstyle, and wardrobe are all things you may tend to keep a certain way each and every day. This may become boring overtime so why not try out some new foods, get a haircut or new hair style, or change up your wardrobe a little.
9. Get outside
Go for a walk, sit on the patio, or visit a park and enjoy the calmness of nature and the fresh outdoor air.
10. Reward yourself
Give yourself an incentive to stay positive by treating yourself every now and then. It will encourage you to think more positively and give you something to look forward to.
