Simple Laundry Hacks To Save Time

Laundry seems like one chore that never finishes for long. If you have children laundry baskets may tend to fill up quicker than you can empty them. Plus if you have work clothes and/or school uniforms you end up with even more. For once work and school has finished for the day everyone wants to change into something more casual and comfortable.

Over time you may come up with a variety of ways to make the laundry situation much more manageable and less time consuming. For instance, the following are some tips and tricks to help keep on top of this never-ending chore.

1. Pre-sort your clothes as they enter the laundry area

If you have enough space, try adding a few inexpensive foldable laundry baskets to sort your clothes. Separate by whites, bright colors, darks, and permanent press. This can save a ton of time. Before placing any clothes in the baskets be sure to check and empty pockets.

2. Pre-treat laundry stains

Try to pre-treat any stains as soon as you can. This will help keep you from having to wash the same article of clothing several times.

3. Wash daily or every other day

This will cut down on having to wash several loads in one day. Of course this depends on your family size and work schedule.

4. Hang a laundry mesh bag for socks and lingerie

Tired of ending up with lost socks? Instead save yourself the time and headaches by making a small investment in a laundry mesh bag. Hang it in the laundry room and have everyone drop their socks and lingerie pieces inside.

5. Retain color in fabrics with salt

It can be frustrating to see your favorite shirt getting faded due to regular washings. But all you have to do to lengthen it’s life is to soak the item in a basin of water with one tablespoon of salt. Let it sit for half an hour and then put it in the wash.

6. Adjust the settings on your washing machine

Choosing the appropriate water level and washing cycle will make the cleansing time more efficient. There is no need to fill a washer with water when half the amount can effectively do the job.

7. Invest in a drying rack

A drying rack is perfect for drying delicate clothes and cuts down on the time you need to be using your clothes dryer. You can even partly machine dry your clothes and hang dry them for the remaining drying time. This will reduce the chances of shrinkage or over-drying clothing. Use clothes hangers to hang items such as blouses and tops to help save time putting them away later.

8. Shorten drying times

Wool dryer balls are a great investment and will save you time drying items such as bath towels. Wool dryer balls not only help washed items dry quickly but can also reduce wrinkles and static cling.

9. Clean the lint filter

Cleaning the lint filter before each use will make your dryer more effective, taking less time to dry your clothing.

10. Fold or hang your clothes as soon as possible

Remove the dried laundry from the clothes line or dryer and then fold or hang right away if possible. This will save your clothes from becoming wrinkled and needing to be ironed.

  9. I have never heard to use salt on clothes before, interesting! I also like to do one load of washing/ drying start to finish vs Adding in another load to the washer. Also to save money use cold water vs hot or warm water for temperatures.
